The Four Gate Federation, or Four-Fed for short, is the governing body in human space.

It controls the 'Four Gate Network', hundreds of Jump Gates that allow for faster than light travel between star systems.

Unfortunately only one of the four gate types is human, the other three are of alien design. One of Four-Fed's biggest problems is maintaining diplomatic relations with the three alien species, a task that is made almost impossible by the complete failure to establish normal forms of communication with them.

Four-Fed has suffered a range of inconclusive wars with two of the alien species, the Heterogeneous Swarm (aka 'Harmers') and the Charmed Inhabitants of Entennic Radiation (aka 'Shaders').

There is currently an uneasy peace between all of the races, but as the risk of war randomly breaking out again is always high Four-Fed constantly maintains a strong military presence near all of it's Gates.


Important Characters in Four-Fed

Logrus Prime is the current leader of Four-Fed.

The public view him as an amusing 'figurehead' personality, more likely to attend a party than a meeting.

But behind the scenes Prime is up to something.

The Logrus clones perform the actual day-to-day tasks of ruling the Federation.

A clone is embedded into every major inhabited planet and colony. As each clone's mind is 'entangled' with Prime's, theoretically the clones carry out commands that come straight from the leader. But as Prime spends most of his time partying or otherwise misbehaving most have learned to govern by themselves.

Legate Sildi is the top functionary in Four-Fed's civilian arm. He answers only to Logrus Prime.

Sildi's mind is also entangled with Prime's but unfortunately for the Legate it is not for the purpose of communication. Prime can leave Sildi brain-dead with a mere thought. A range of clones are kept on ice so that Sildi can be revived at any time, with whatever secrets or motivations that had caused Prime to kill the old version already pre-wiped from the backup of his mind.

Logrus Three is the clone assigned to govern the military's homeworld, Marshalmur.

He disapproves of Prime's 'playboy' ways but is loyal. He will obey the commands of his ruler, no matter how insane they seem. For now.
